e-Wallet: A unified digital ID and document solution for the EU

e-Boks, trusted leader in secure digital communication, and the award-winning startup dewa announce a strategic partnership to launch an advanced digital wallet. The digital wallet is intended to make it easy and secure to identify oneself, sign documents, and store personal credentials throughout the EU.

A unified EU identity solution

With the EU mandating that all EU countries provide a digital ID wallet by 2026, e-Wallet is being developed to align with these requirements. Upon launch and through continuous development, it is designed to support secure authentication, storage of personal credentials, and compliance with EU standards.

Secure digital storage

In the future, digital wallets will enable users, for instance, to safely store and share digital ID cards, driver’s licenses, and academic certificates with advanced encrypted security. Designed to provide users with full control over their personal data, they will ensure privacy and protection while accessing services across Europe.

EU standard compliant

Built to meet the eIDAS 2.0 regulations, e-Wallet seeks to provide secure login, digital signing, and storage of personal credentials while ensuring compliance with strict European data protection laws.

e-Wallet developed by dewa

Founded in October 2024 by Lorenz Carl Flechtenmacher and Thomas Gammelby Lodberg, dewa started as an idea at DTU to create a digital identity wallet.

The first MVP - a student identity card - was developed through DTU X-Tech, where dewa won the X-Tech+ grand prize for best innovation.

Ulrik Falkner Thagesen, CEO of e-Boks, adds: "We have been actively engaging with innovative ecosystems, including DTU and Copenhagen Fintech, and this collaboration demonstrates the exciting opportunities such efforts can unlock."
